RECOMMENDED READING
Use the link below to acquire grade level appropriate and content specific reading suggestions from the California Department of Education: Recommended Literature Lists.  The site is overwhelmingly huge and detailed, so I am providing step-by-step instructions to help you locate the lists.  Enjoy!

  1. Click on the link offered below and then scroll down to “List Resources,” and click on the hyperlink: “Literature List Resources.”
  2. On the “Resources” page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Search Categories.”
  3. On this page, you might enjoy looking at “Awards,” to see specially recognized titles.
  4. Or go back to the "Resources" page and check out “Previously Published Literature Lists.” There are many links on this page that categorize books according to a variety of content areas and age groups. You can also click on “Recommended Literature Search: Reading and Language Arts” within the second paragraph on this page and search by author, illustrator, translator, discipline, language and more.  I would recommend going to "Classification" and selecting “Classic” in the drop down menu.
  5. From the "Resources" page, you can also click on “Connections to Standards.” The CA Department of Education site reflects CCSS.
