DATE STRUCTURES IN MLA
IN THE ESSAY:
MLA offers seems to be moving toward greater consistency with the use of dates.  The latest version of MLA shows the date set up in the heading to be in the same order as dates in a works cited entry.  The only difference is that the date in the essay's heading would not be abbreviated.

A heading sample date:
8 October 2015
  • Do not use commas.
  • Do not abbreviate the month.
  • Do not abbreviate the year; for example, use 2015 instead of '15.
  • Do not add a zero for a single digit day; for example, don't do this: 08 October 2015.
  • Do not use all numbers, like this: 8/10/2015.

ON THE WORKS CITED PAGE:

8 Oct. 2015
  • Do not put a zero in front of a single digit number; for example, use 8 Oct. 2015 instead of 08 Oct. 2015.
  • Do not abbreviate May, June and July.  All other months are abbreviated.
