2021 AP Digital Testing for West High School -- Disseminated on 4/22/2021
Most AP exams will not be given on campus this year. If you are taking one of the following exams, your test will be done digitally at home: English Language, English Literature, Environmental Science, Biology, Computer Science Principles, US History, World History, Human Geography, Psychology, US Gov/Politics, & Macroeconomics.
In order to set up your home computer to take these exams, there are a few steps that you need to take as soon as possible. Start by watching this College Board video for an overview of the process. Then use this College Board website to get links to detailed directions for each of the four preparation steps.
Step 1 (Now): Download and Install the Digital Testing App and Log in
If you are using your own computer, download the testing app today. Then open it up and log in with your College Board username and password. If you have a chromebook that you checked out from West HS, the app is already installed on your computer. You can find it by turning off your computer and turning it back on. On the sign in screen, you’ll see the word “Apps” near the lower left corner. Click “Apps” and then choose “2021 Digital AP Exams”, (note: the file name might start with “https://fo67eujgrvkrid…” the first time you open it).
Step 2 (As Soon as Possible): Practice with Example Questions in the Digital Testing App
This step will let you know that your app was correctly installed and is working on your computer. There is both a short “App Demo” you can use to check the installation, and a longer “Digital Practice” that you will use to practice answering the kinds of questions you’ll see on your specific exam. Click here for detailed instructions, screenshots, and directions to reset the link if you want to do the practice again.
Step 3 (1-3 Days Before Exam Day): Complete Exam Setup for Each Digital Exam
This step is critical. Without this final setup, you will not be able to take your exam. Also, if you are taking more than one digital AP exam, it must be done for each exam. It must be done on the same computer you’ll use for the test. Log in to the digital testing app and complete a few final setup tasks. Click here for more details.
Step 4 (On Exam Day, 30 Minutes Before the Exam): Check in to the Exam
All exams start at the exact same time across the country, at either 9 AM or 1 PM in our time zone. If you have not checked in by that time, you will not be allowed to take the exam. Click here for the full directions. Exam start times are listed on page 75 of the manual here.
Here are a few other steps to prepare for a successful AP Exam day:
1. Preview the Digital Testing App
View this slideshow to see how the questions will be displayed, what tools you’ll have in the app, and how your answers will be submitted. Also, be aware that on the digital exams, on both the multiple choice and free response questions, you will not be able to go back and review or change your answers to earlier questions. Once you decide to move on from a question, whether or not you answered it, you will not be able to revisit it.
2. Tell your teacher in advance about any class you will miss due to AP testing
Find out the date and time (always 9 AM or 1 PM) of your AP exams and which classes from West High you will miss. You are excused to leave class 30 minutes before the start time of your AP exam Once the exam is finished, you should return to your WHS classes already in session. At the end of April you will receive an excuse list. Be sure to show it to your teachers in advance for any classes you will miss.
3. Prepare your home testing environment
Find a quiet room and tell your family members at home that you should not be disturbed. Make sure your computer is fully charged or plugged in. Have your calculator (depending on the subject), scratch paper, pens and pencils ready.
4. Don’t cheat on your exam
By taking an AP exam, you are agreeing to abide by the terms, which prohibit attempting to cheat or otherwise obtain an unfair advantage on the exam. The policies clarify that you are not allowed to give or get assistance or otherwise communicate, through any means, with another person about the exam during the exam administration. You are not allowed to submit any work that is not entirely your own. Prohibited devices and reference materials should not be accessed during the exam. If you collaborate, access unauthorized aids, or attempt to have someone else test for you, your exam can be cancelled.
5. If something goes wrong, request a Makeup Digital Exam
If you’re having trouble submitting, read page 93 here. Also, if an issue occurs that impacts your ability to test or you are unable to submit your answers after repeated attempts, you can request a make-up. Log in to My AP and in the block for the problematic exam there will be a link called “Request Makeup”. More directions are on page 54 of this manual.
6. Help is available
If you have any questions about your digital exam, ask your AP teacher. If they don’t know the answer, please direct your questions to the GATE Coordinator, Mr. Hettinger. You can email him at [email protected]
