AP PRACTICE TIMED WRITING
READ THE DIRECTIONS AND GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES.

SETTING UP:
  • Have Perrine’s available (if applicable).
  • Have a timing device and a camera ready. Both of these can be your phone.
  • Get out 3 pieces of lined paper and a pen.
  • Do NOT write on the back of a page.
  • Do not worry about a heading or header.

SET UP THE TOP OF YOUR ESSAY PAGE AS FOLLOWS:

Name:                               Period:                         Date:

Started:                  Finished planning:                   Finished essay:                 Total time:

  • Plan to spend 10 minutes organizing your essay. Decide what aspects and quote(s) you will include in each of 2 to 3 body paragraphs.
  • Your intro will be 1 sentence (2 max). Name the story and author. Address all the tasks of the prompt.
  • The conclusion can be short: 1 to 2 sentences. Draw a concluding statement and add something philosophical.

THE PROCESS

  • Set the timer for 40 minutes for the entire process.
  • Set another timer for 10 minutes to gauge your planning time.
  • After reading the instructions and gathering supplies, start the timer and scroll down to the prompt.
  • Map out (plan) your essay on a piece of paper other than where you will write your essay.
  • When you are finished planning, record the time.
  • Write your essay on the paper that has your name on it. Use two pieces of paper if necessary but do not write on the back of a page.
  • When you finish, record your stop time and compute your total time.
  • If you need more than 40 minutes, that's OK. Finish the paper. Record and calculate your time.

WHEN YOU FINISH
  • Take a picture(s) of your essay and upload into the assignment in Google Classroom.
  • Save your prep work for later reference, but do not upload it.
