COLLEGE / CAREER VISITS

Thursday, 3/15 Law/Criminal Justice--Prosecutor: Our guest speaker is a prosecutor with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. He has been with the office for 26 years. He attended USCB and UCLA and then worked while putting himself through night law school. He has protected a wide range of misdemeanors including DUI’s, Domestic Violence, Theft, Assault with a Deadly Weapon (attempted murder by axe). He has "filed dozens of actions seeking to stop the proliferation of drug, gang and nuisance activity on private properties" and has "been invited by Interpol to speak at conferences in Panama, Dublin, Vietnam and London.”

Wednesday, 3/21 Engineer: Our career speaker comes with a background in Chemical Engineering but routinely interacts with engineers from other branches, such as structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering. He has also worked as an applications engineer on environmental projects, an environmental staff engineer at a precious metals company, and a production supervisor at a chemical plant. This is a presentation you don't want to miss!

Thursday, 4/5 Environmental Careers: Dr. Yue Rong (aka, YR) is currently the Environmental Program Manager at the California Environmental Protection Agency, Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board. He has more than twenty-five years of experience with the agency in dealing with groundwater contamination problems in the Los Angeles area of California. Dr. Yue Rong has a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from UCLA.

Thursday, 4/12 Business Careers: Our guest speaker is an institutional Investment Manager. He manages investments for large corporations, foundations and endowments, and a few ultra-high net worth clients. His job takes him to far away places, like Brazil, Japan, and the Caribbean. It’s an exciting job that requires an ability to be aware of current events occurring around the world and how those events will impact clients’ investments. The speaker asserts, "Despite the negative press and the image of 'evil bankers,' financiers actually make the world a better place by allocating money from 'savers' (who have no immediate use for their money) to 'borrowers' (who have great business ideas, but need the money to execute them). We grease the machinery of the global economy, helping it grow and thereby make people richer and better off the world over.”

Thursday, 4/26 Doctor/Pediatrician/Neonatologist: Our guest speaker is the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA. She is a pediatrician and neonatologist. Her research is funded in the area of early ascertainment of autism as well as the long-term outcome of substance exposed fetuses.
